    About the Installation
    The Marine Barracks in Washington D.C. is a National Historic Landmark that is the official residence of the Commandant of the Marine Corps and the oldest post in the United States Marine Corps. The Marine Barracks has eight buildings on the property that are also considered historic structures. The Marine Barracks, D.C. was established in 1801 and is within walking distance of the Washington Navy Yard. The Marines assigned to the barracks participate in funeral escorts for dignitaries and ceremonial honor guard for state functions.
